I love to travel the world! One of the major perks from my former career as a professional background singer, was that I got paid to sing and see the world. My son CJ has inherited my passion for travel. We are spending our birthdays in Detroit, and then we’re heading to Europe! I want CJ to experience various cultures around the world, and gain a global perspective. Travel can be exhausting is you don’t plan accordingly. Here are a few of my tips and tricks that help me get the most out of my adventures around the world:
- Pack light: You don’t want to lug around unnecessarily heavy, oversized bags. Leave room for shopping and souvenirs. Big Carlos and I traveled through Europe and Africa for our honeymoon with one roller bag and two backpacks. I know it sounds crazy, but it was super efficient! When traveling, make sure you have a backpack, cross body and/or fanny pack that ZIPS to secure money/ wallet/ passport. The pick-pockets are professional! I prefer a cross body or fanny pack for easy access and so I can keep an eye on it.
- Make sure to notify your bank: one of the worst things that can happen when you’re out of town is your credit card not working! Submit travel notices with your bank to avoid unnecessary holds on your card. Always have some cash on hand for emergencies.
- Make extra copies of important documents: Secure all ID’s, passports and identification tools in case of emergencies.
- Carry a first-aid kit: Bandaids and neosporin might come in handy, especially if you’re traveling with kids.
- Make a list: Write down your must-do/ must see activities and attractions! Have a plan for some of the days but leave room for rest and spontaneous exploration. Build time in for lunch and carry snacks. You won’t enjoy anything if you’re hangry!
- Travel with adventurous people: Nobody wants to get all the way across the pond and find out their friend doesn’t want to leave the room! Choose your travel companions wisely.
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes: In this instance, the L is not for Louboutin. You may want to pack one pair for a night out, but you’ll want to have comfortable shoes on most of the time. Pack a light jacket, too, if you get easily cold like me.
