Almost a decade a ago, I wrote my first book entitled “Girl! Let Me Tell You…”. It was a compilation of stories about my life as a single successful woman, as well as questions and answers relating to all things life and love. I wanted to share some of my experiences with dating, marriage and divorce in hopes of inspiring other women to live life limitlessly and never settle for anything less than they deserve.
Navigating through life and love isn’t easy, even for me. To quote one of my favorite Langston Hughes poems, “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair”. We all stumble, fall….hell, even crash and burn sometimes. But it’s not about how far you fall, it’s about learning how to get back up.
Everyone needs some good advice sometimes. I am the confidant and go-to girl for many of my girlfriends. When I answer the phone, and the greeting on the other end starts “Girl! Let Me Tell You…” I know something went down or sh** just got real!! All of my friends know if you call me for advice, I’m going to tell it like it is. Don’t call me if you don’t want the truth. I always say, I will tell you what you need to hear, which is not necessarily what you want to hear. Likewise, I rely on my close girlfriends not only for support and a listening ear, but to tell me when I’m wrong. And believe me they do!
Over past two decades, because of my work as a family attorney, TV expert, judge of Paternity Court, and openness about my own life experiences, I’ve been pegged as a relationship expert. Believe me, I don’t claim to speak from a place of perfection but people have come to trust and appreciation my perspective. So, in celebration of the upcoming tenth anniversary, I’ve decided to re-launch “Girl! Let Me Tell You…”. I look forward to sharing new stories, and giving my take on life, love and living. Also, I plan to share how the advice I may have given ten years ago has changed and why.
Like they always say, “You live and you learn.” Well, when you live life limitlessly, trust me, you learn a lot.
